The average level of the airborne noise reduction factor when using a heavy membrane is Rw from 28 dB, but if the material is laid on structures or surfaces with good soundproofing characteristics, such as a wooden floor, walls or ceiling, then the soundproofing level doubles. However, these figures are not the limit, by combining a heavy membrane with soft layers of other noise-absorbing materials, you can achieve an even greater effect.
