Before moving on to discussing how to choose stands for acoustics, it is necessary to decide what an acoustic stand is and what it is for. So, a speaker stand is a structure designed to accommodate various elements of a speaker system on it. However, these are not just shelves. A distinctive feature of racks for acoustics is the fact that this equipment has a minimum frequency and amplitude of its own resonance when sounding. That is, the stands do not emit background noise and do not affect the quality of the sound recording.

In most cases, global manufacturers produce speaker stands made of the following materials: wood, glass, MDF, acrylic, and various metals. As a rule, the design of the racks involves making the supporting parts hollow inside. This is done so that the end user, when installing equipment permanently, has the opportunity to fill the hollow volumes with various loose materials - sand, earth. This is done in order to reduce vibration to almost zero, thereby making the structure inert.

To reduce vibration in rack structures, rubber gaskets are often used. They are usually installed on the top and bottom plate of the acoustic rack. This makes it possible to significantly reduce vibration during music playback, even at high volume. As for the aesthetic component, professional acoustic stands are usually made in such a way that power and signal cables pass inside their structure, through holes specially made for them. Thus, the cables themselves are not visible from the outside. This not only gives the rack a more attractive appearance, but also protects the mentioned cables from external damage.

When choosing one or another acoustic rack, you must always pay attention to two parameters:

  • Purpose and equipment used. For small systems, the width of the racks is about 200…600 mm. As for large systems, including stationary floor racks, the width of the rack can be up to 800 mm.
  • Material. The highest quality racks are made of wood. However, on sale there are racks made of other materials - MDF, metal, organic glass. Often there are combinations.
